One World Centre: Youth
and Community
Helen
Patrick joined the One World Centre in October 2005 as
Development Education Worker for Youth & Community.
Most of her remit is to work on the project ‘Discovering
and Shaping our World’, which is a three-year project
funded by a mini-grant from the Department for International
Development (DfID). The aim of the project is to ensure a
programme of active global citizenship within voluntary youth
organisations in Dundee and the surrounding area, and make them
aware of the support available from the One World Centre in
terms of ideas and resources. Details of progress on this
project can be read in this report
.
Other areas of work include:
Supporting
Neighbourhood Centres in Dundee in promoting fair trade.
Details of activities carried out during Fairtrade Fortnight
are highlighted here.
Following
up the demands made on politicians from the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY
campaign, particularly relating to trade justice and debt
cancellation.
Promoting
other opportunities to make the public more aware of complex
global issues such as Refugee Week and One World Week.
Taking
an active role in the Dundee Fair Trade Forum,
which promotes the selling,
buying and use of fairly traded products in the city.
